Kate Garvin to be honored at Oct. 25th Luncheon

Every Child Pediatrics will present a community award to Kate Garvin at our 4th Annual Kids Health Symposium. This free luncheon is on Thursday, Oct. 25th at the History Colorado Center. Kate founded the Crawford Community Center, an innovative after-school program at Crawford Elementary School that involves multiple nonprofits in the community coming together to drive impressive academic and health outcomes. Come learn about this exciting model of supporting youth and hear about the work Kate is now doing at a broader scale as Director of Family Advocacy and Community Engagement of ACTION Zone schools at Aurora Public Schools. Seats are still available so register online today. If you have any questions, please contact Amber Kelusky at akelusky@everychildpediatrics.org or 303-962-1517.

 Behavioral Health Program Serves Thousands

Every Child Pediatrics is proud to announce that our integrated behavioral health program continues to expand and is now supporting about 2,000 children and families. Behavioral Health Consultants are key members of our medical teams and provide immediate care to youth who present with significant behavioral health issues or need help with relationships and other stressors. Behavioral Health Consultants also schedule follow-up counseling sessions for patients on a short-term basis and help them access additional services. They also provide critical preventive services to caregivers so they can support their child's healthy development. We'd like to thank our partners: Mental Health Center of Denver, Aurora Mental Health Center, Maria Droste Counseling Center, Community Reach Center and Jefferson Center. Aurora School-Based Health Centers Help More Kids

During the 2017-2018 school year, our Aurora School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) achieved a 15 percent increase in medical visits, serving over 2,400 children who are mostly low income and uninsured. One of those students is 11-year-old Maria. Maria moved to the US from Honduras two years ago and had not received medical care for even longer than that. She saw Physician Assistant Ava Majkrzak at the Trojan Wellness Center in June for a well-child check and received needed immunizations. Ava also found a large abdominal mass. The family is uninsured, so Ava helped them connect with a local hospital for testing and financial assistance. See a video of Ava here.
